HONOLULU (Dec. 16, 2019) — Yanina Wickmayer and Christian Harrison have been added to the Hawaii Open draw. Canadian tennis players Milos Raonic and Bianca Andreescu have withdrawn from the Hawaii Open due to injury.
Yanina Wickmayer, 2016 Citi Open Champion, will be competing in the Hawaii Open for the first time. The former WTA No. 12 from Belgium has 5 singles titles and represented Belgium in the Fed Cup from 2007- 2016 and the Belgium Olympic Team in 2012.
“The Hawaii Open is a great tournament to start the 2020 season,” said Wickmayer. “I’m excited to visit the island and compete against top talent.”
Christian Harrison will be competing in the Hawaii Open for the second time.
“I had a great time playing in the Hawaii Open last year,” said Harrison. “I can’t wait to return to the beautiful island and play some of the world’s best.”
Milos Raonic, one of the top Canadian players on the ATP World Tour, competed in the tournament last year falling to Kei Nishikori in the championship.
“I regret that I must withdraw from the Hawaii Open. I was looking forward to competing in the tournament again and seeing all of my fans in beautiful Oahu,” said Raonic. “I wish the best to the Hawaii Open and I hope to return in 2020.”
Bianca Andreescu, 2019 US Open Champion, was set to compete in the Hawaii Open for the first time.
“I am super disappointed I cannot make the tournament this year, I have always wanted to [play] there,” said Andreescu. “Due to my knee injury, I have to take care of it so I can be ready for the season. Hopefully I can come back next year.”
The Hawaii Open wishes a quick and full recovery to Bianca Andreescu and Milos Raonic.
